How to stream with VPN Super

support background

VPN Super keeps your streaming private, protects your connection on public Wi-Fi, and helps prevent your ISP from throttling video traffic. This guide covers setup on every device and tips for getting the best streaming performance.

What you'll need:

  • The VPN Super app installed on the device you're streaming on. Download for iOS, Android, or Windows (Premium subscription required).

Note: While the free version of VPN Super lets you access 40+ server locations, a Premium subscription offers faster speeds, 60+ more locations, and high-capacity servers optimized for streaming.

Setup by device

On Mobile (iOS and Android):

  1. Open VPN Super
  2. If you have a Premium subscription, open the app menu (☰) > My account and sign in.
  3. On the home screen, tap Location and select a server. For the best performance, use Fastest Location (highlighted at the top when you select Location) or pick a server with a low ms value.
  4. Tap Connect.
  5. Open your streaming app and start watching.

Protocol tip: if your stream is buffering or dropping, try switching protocols on the home screen. IKEv2 and OpenVPN are reliable options for streaming on iOS and Android.

On desktop (Windows):

  1. Open VPN Super and click "Sign in". If you already purchased a Premium subscription on mobile, but don't have an account yet, click "Learn more →" to create your account.Note: VPN Super for Windows requires a Premium subscription. Click "Buy a Premium subscription" to browse available plans.
  2. Once you sign in, click Location and select a server. For the best performance, use Fastest Location (highlighted at the top when you select Location) or pick a server with a low ms value.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. Open your streaming service in a browser, or open the service's app directly.

Protocol tip: WireGuard gives the fastest speeds on Windows and is the best option for HD and 4K streaming. Not sure which protocol to use? See which VPN protocol you should choose.

Tips for the best streaming experience

  • Switch to a Premium server. VPN Super's high-capacity Premium servers are optimized for fast, HD streaming. They're regularly stress-tested for compatibility with popular streaming services.
  • Use Fastest Location. Geographic proximity isn't always the fastest route—peering, routing, and server load all play a part. Fastest Location automatically picks the lowest-latency server for your current network, which is the most reliable choice for streaming. For a deeper look at how server selection works, see how to find the best VPN Super server.
  • Check your speed. HD streaming needs 5-8 Mbps, while 4K needs 25 Mbps or more. If your stream is buffering, run a speed test with VPN Super connected. If speeds are lower than expected, switch to a server with a lower ms value or try a different VPN protocol.
  • Connect to VPN before opening your streaming app. Connect VPN Super first, then open your service. Connecting mid-stream can cause a brief interruption.
  • On public Wi-Fi, connect before anything else. Public networks are often unencrypted, so connecting VPN Super before you open any app—not just your streaming service—keeps your full session protected.

How to fix common streaming issues

Most streaming problems with a VPN come down to server load, protocol mismatch, connection speed, or app cache. The following fixes should work the same, regardless of which service you're watching.

1. Switch to a different server

If your current server seems to be giving you issues, try a different one—use the ms latency value in the location list to find the fastest option. Fastest Location will pick the best available server automatically, and Premium servers are optimized for streaming.

2. Switch your protocol

Different protocols perform differently depending on your network and the streaming platform. On the home screen, try switching to a different VPN protocol. WireGuard is the fastest option on Windows, while IKEv2 and OpenVPN are reliable alternatives on iOS and Android.

3. Reconnect to VPN Super

If VPN Super has been running in the background for a while, a fresh connection often resolves loading failures. Disconnect, wait 10 seconds, reconnect, and then open your streaming service. If reconnecting doesn't resolve it, see can't connect to VPN Super for more fixes.

4. Try the browser instead of the app (or vice versa)

Streaming apps and browser players can handle VPN connections differently. If the app isn't loading, try the service's website in Chrome or Safari with VPN Super active—or try the app if you've been using the browser.

5. Clear the app cache

A corrupted cache can cause loading failures that appear to be a VPN issue. On Android, go to SettingsApps[streaming app]StorageClear Cache. On iOS and Windows, try deleting and reinstalling the streaming app. Reconnect VPN Super and try again.

Streaming FAQs

Which VPN Super plan is best for streaming?

Any of VPN Super's Premium plans. Premium servers are optimized for streaming and deliver the most reliable HD and 4K performance. If you're watching live sports or high-quality video, Premium is the way to go.

Will VPN Super slow down my stream?

Some speed reduction is normal with any VPN due to encryption and routing. VPN Super Premium servers are optimized to minimize this. If you notice a significant drop, switch to a server with a lower ms value in the location list, or try a different protocol on the home screen.

My streaming service is showing a location error or asking me to verify where I am. Is something wrong?

No. Some platforms detect VPN traffic and display a location prompt or temporary error. This is normal behavior and doesn't indicate an issue with your account or VPN Super. Switching to a different server or trying a different protocol on the home screen usually resolves it.

Can I stream on multiple devices at the same time?

Yes. A VPN Super Premium subscription covers up to 10 devices simultaneously—phones, tablets, and laptops.

A streaming service was working with VPN Super yesterday but isn't today. What happened?

Streaming platforms occasionally update how they handle VPN traffic. Switching to a different server or protocol on the home screen is the quickest fix. If that doesn't resolve it, contact Support and we'll see how we can help.
