Channel 4 won't load, shows an error, or keeps buffering while VPN Super is connected? This guide covers the most common causes, steps to try, and what to do if Channel 4 keeps asking you to sign in.
Why isn't Channel 4 working with my VPN?
- The server you're on is busy during a high-traffic window, such as a big live broadcast
- Channel 4 is detecting VPN traffic and limiting playback
- The Channel 4 app is still using an old connection from before you connected
What can I try if Channel 4 isn't working with my VPN?
- Update the VPN Super app to the latest version. Open the app and check for an update notification on the home screen. If you don't see one, update it on the App Store or Play Store, or download the latest version.
- Switch to a Premium server. Premium servers are built for streaming. If you don't have a Premium subscription yet, you can upgrade here. If a show won't start on your current server, switch to a different one.
- Try the browser instead of the app. Open channel4.com in Chrome or Safari with VPN Super connected.
- Refresh your connection. Disconnect and reconnect VPN Super, then quit the Channel 4 app and reopen it so it uses the new VPN session. In a browser, close and reopen the tab, or clear your browser cache.
Note: If your browser asks to share your location with channel4.com, don't allow it. If you've already allowed it, you can remove that permission in your browser settings.
Channel 4 asking you to sign in?
Channel 4 needs a free account to stream. If it keeps asking you to sign in, sign out fully, close the app or tab, and sign back in after step 4. If you've forgotten your password, reset it from the Channel 4 sign-in page.
Channel 4 buffering or low quality with VPN?
If Channel 4 loads but keeps buffering or drops to a lower quality, the cause is usually connection speed rather than the server.
Run a speed test at speedtest.net with VPN Super connected. If your speed is low, try these:
- Switch to a server closer to you. A shorter distance usually means faster speeds. Compare servers using the ms latency value in the location list.
- Switch from mobile data to Wi-Fi. A stable Wi-Fi connection can give more reliable playback.
If your speed is fine but buffering continues, work through steps 1 to 3 above.
Watching Channel 4 on a TV?
Most of the steps above also apply on Apple TV and Android TV. For TV-specific troubleshooting, see How to fix common issues on Apple TV or How to fix common issues on Android TV.
