Why use

an

Ireland

VPN?

Irish streaming, banking, and government services all geo-restrict the moment you leave the country. RTÉ Player blocks live TV and on-demand content outside Ireland, while Virgin Media Player is restricted to the Republic of Ireland.

An Ireland VPN replaces your real IP with an Irish one, encrypts your connection, and gives you control over what your ISP and the websites you visit can see.

Stream Irish TV from anywhere
RTÉ Player, Virgin Media Player, TG4 Player, and GAAGO all check your IP before letting you in. An Ireland VPN makes it look like you're browsing from inside the country, bypassing geo-blocks.
Watch BBC iPlayer from Ireland
BBC iPlayer is restricted to the UK. Connect to a VPN Super UK server from Ireland and you're in.
Stay private on any network
Your connection is encrypted the moment you connect to public Wi-Fi at a hotel, café, airport, or pub in Dublin.
Reduce ISP visibility
Irish ISPs like Eir, Vodafone Ireland, Three, and Sky Ireland can process connection metadata. A VPN encrypts your traffic so your ISP sees a connection to a VPN server, not the sites you visit.

Do I need

an

Ireland

VPN?

You travel and lose access to Irish content

RTÉ Player, Virgin Media Player, and TG4 Player all geo-restrict to Irish IPs. GAAGO is available worldwide for GAA matches, but rights restrictions mean some games televised by RTÉ, TG4, or BBC NI are blocked in certain territories. Connect to an Ireland VPN server and the full domestic catalogue comes back.

You want to watch BBC iPlayer, ITVX, or Channel 4 from Ireland

BBC iPlayer is locked to UK IPs. ITVX and Channel 4 are the same. Connect to a VPN Super UK server from Dublin, Cork, or Galway and they all work.

You want to watch GAA matches abroad

Connect to a server outside Ireland and the UK to access the international GAAGO feed, or connect to an Irish server to access domestic broadcasts on RTÉ or TG4 Player.

You use public Wi-Fi

Dublin Airport, Heuston Station, cafés on Grafton Street, hotel lobbies in Galway. A VPN encrypts your traffic so nobody on the same network can see what you're doing.

Stream

Ireland

TV from anywhere

Leaving Ireland usually means losing access to the TV you watch at home. Ireland's streaming landscape includes both free-to-air and premium platforms, and almost all of them geo-restrict: Connect to VPN Super's Ireland server and those platforms see an Irish IP instead.

Exceptional Speed & Country Choices
Initially skeptical after using other apps like Orbot, Tor browser, Surfshark and others. This VPN is seemingly very stable with servers available for other countries and fast continual connectivity.

Love love love
I've found this VPN to be really reliable and easy to use. The connection speed is fast, even when streaming or browsing on different servers, and switching locations only takes a few seconds. I also like the extra privacy and security it gives me when using public Wi-Fi. The app is simple to set up, and it runs smoothly in the background without slowing my device down. Overall, it's a great option if you want both protection and convenience online.

Ready to get a VPN for Ireland? Here's what to look for.

Irish servers that actually work

RTÉ Player has been actively blocking VPN connections since early 2026. VPN Super runs servers in Dublin and refreshes IPs regularly so Irish platforms see a clean Irish IP address.

UK servers for BBC iPlayer

Half the reason Irish users want a VPN is to access BBC iPlayer, ITVX, and Channel 4. Make sure your provider has UK servers too. VPN Super has servers across the UK.

Honest pricing

VPN Super offers a Free VPN with no strings attached, plus Premium Subscriptions in 1-month, 6-month, and 12-month tiers. No hidden charges, no auto-renewal traps.

A provider that respects Irish privacy law

Ireland reformed its data retention framework in 2022, following the CJEU's Graham Dwyer ruling. The new Act requires High Court approval for general data retention and limits it to national security purposes. A VPN adds encryption that covers the remaining gaps: ISP metadata processing, public Wi-Fi risks, and cross-border tracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Illustration of a person holding an information icon in front of a large document on a laptop screen with a purple paper airplane flying and a small potted plant nearby.
Is VPN legal in Ireland?

Yes. VPN use is fully legal in Ireland. There are no laws restricting individuals from using VPN services. Ireland operates under EU law (GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Irish Constitution (Article 40.3, which protects the right to privacy). The Data Protection Commission (DPC) is one of the most active privacy regulators in the EU. As with any jurisdiction, activities illegal without a VPN remain illegal with one.

What are Ireland's data retention laws?

Ireland reformed its data retention framework in 2022 following a landmark ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

The original Communications (Retention of Data) Act 2011 required ISPs and telecom providers to retain all traffic and location data for two years (phone) and one year (internet). In 2022, the CJEU ruled (in a case arising from the prosecution of convicted murderer Graham Dwyer) that this blanket retention was incompatible with EU law.

The Communications (Retention of Data) (Amendment) Act 2022 came into force on June 26, 2023. Under the new framework, general and indiscriminate retention of traffic and location data is only permitted to safeguard national security, requires a High Court order, and is limited to 12 months. Targeted preservation orders for specific individuals under criminal investigation remain available. The Minister for Justice obtained the first High Court retention order on the day the Act commenced.

A VPN encrypts your connection, so your ISP sees traffic to a VPN server rather than the specific websites you visited.

How do I watch RTÉ Player outside Ireland?

RTÉ Player geo-restricts all live TV and most on-demand content to Irish IP addresses. RTÉ Player International is a separate app with a smaller library (around 500 hours of content), but for the full domestic catalogue you need an Irish IP.

Open VPN Super, connect to the Dublin server, then visit rte.ie/player or open the RTÉ Player app. If content still shows as restricted, clear your browser cache and cookies.

Be aware that RTÉ Player has tightened VPN detection as of March 2026. Reddit users report that NordVPN is being blocked. VPN Super refreshes Irish IPs regularly to stay ahead of detection.

How do I watch BBC iPlayer from Ireland?

BBC iPlayer is restricted to UK IP addresses. It's one of the most popular reasons Irish people use a VPN.

Open VPN Super, connect to a UK server, then visit bbc.co.uk/iplayer or open the iPlayer app. BBC iPlayer does not check for a TV Licence at the point of streaming. The stream loads as long as you have a UK IP address.

Can I access HBO Max US library from Ireland?

HBO Max launched in Ireland in March 2026. Irish users now have access to a local catalogue through Sky and NOW Entertainment. However, the US HBO Max library is larger, with some titles and originals released earlier in the US.

To access the US library, connect to a VPN Super US server before opening the HBO Max app. You will need a US-registered HBO Max account.

How does GAAGO work with a VPN?

GAAGO streams GAA championship and league fixtures. The platform is available worldwide, but rights restrictions create a complicated patchwork depending on your location and pass type.

If you hold an Annual Pass for Ireland, games broadcast by RTÉ, TG4, or BBC NI are blocked on GAAGO in Ireland and Northern Ireland. If you hold an Annual Pass GB, games broadcast by BBC are excluded. These restrictions apply based on your detected location.

A VPN can help in two scenarios: if you're abroad and a specific game is blacked out in your territory, connect to a server where the game is available. If you're abroad and want to watch the RTÉ or TG4 domestic broadcast instead of GAAGO, connect to the Dublin server.
