Austrian streaming, banking, and government services all geo-restrict the moment you leave the country. ORF ON blocks most live streams and on-demand content outside Austria. ServusTV, Sky Austria (WOW), and Joyn Austria do the same.
An Austria VPN replaces your real IP with an Austrian one, encrypts your connection, and adds a layer of privacy that complements your existing legal protections.

Smart server selection connects you to the fastest available server based on real-time load. No manual picking needed.
The Vienna server provides low latency for Austrian streaming platforms, banking apps, and government portals. For users connecting from elsewhere in Central Europe, expect 5 to 20ms. From Western Europe, expect 15 to 35ms. From the US East Coast, expect 100 to 130ms, which is comfortable for streaming and general browsing.
Leaving Austria usually means losing access to the TV you watch at home. ORF ON geo-restricts all live streams (ORF 1, ORF 2, ORF III, ORF Sport+) and most on-demand content to Austrian IP addresses. ServusTV and Sky Austria (WOW) do the same.
Connect to VPN Super's Austria server and those platforms see an Austrian IP instead.

VPN Super encrypts your connection with AES-256, the same standard used by banks and governments. Your real IP is hidden, your data is encrypted, and your browsing stays between you and your screen.

Yes. VPN use is fully legal in Austria. There are no laws restricting individuals from using VPN services. Austria operates under EU law (GDPR) and the Austrian DSG (Datenschutzgesetz), both of which protect personal data and the right to privacy. As with any jurisdiction, activities illegal without a VPN remain illegal with one.
Austria has a strong privacy track record, backed by three landmark Constitutional Court decisions:
In 2014, the Austrian Constitutional Court struck down the national data retention law that required ISPs to retain all telecom and internet metadata for six months. The Court ruled it violated Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights and the fundamental right to data protection. Austria has not re-legislated blanket data retention since.
In 2019, the Constitutional Court struck down a surveillance law (the "Bundestrojaner") that would have allowed police to install spying software on suspects' devices to read encrypted messages. The Court found it violated the right to privacy, data protection, and the prohibition on unreasonable searches.
Austrian telecom providers are now required to delete traffic data immediately once it's no longer needed for billing, in line with the ePrivacy Directive and Austria's Telecom Act. Only targeted retention with a court order for specific suspects is permitted.
GDPR applies directly in Austria, supplemented by the DSG (Datenschutzgesetz). The Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde) enforces compliance.
A VPN encrypts your connection, so your ISP sees traffic to a VPN server rather than the specific websites you visited.
Austria's main streaming platforms are:
To watch any of these from abroad, connect to VPN Super's Vienna server before opening the platform.
ORF ON geo-restricts live TV and most on-demand content to Austrian IP addresses. If your IP isn't Austrian, you'll see the error "Nur in Österreich verfügbar" (Only available in Austria).
Open VPN Super, connect to the Vienna server, then visit on.orf.at or open the ORF ON app. If content still shows as restricted, clear your browser cache and cookies. ORF ON stores location data that can conflict with your new Austrian IP.
Be aware that ORF ON has tightened VPN detection since its May 2024 launch. Some VPN providers (including NordVPN, according to Reddit reports) have been flagged. VPN Super refreshes Austrian IPs regularly to stay ahead of detection.
Open VPN Super, tap the globe icon, scroll to Austria, and tap Connect. Wait for the green shield. Websites, streaming platforms, and banking apps will treat you as if you're in Vienna. It takes about five seconds.
Most free VPNs either lack Austrian servers or have server pools so small that streaming platforms block them quickly. Some monetize by logging and reselling browsing data. VPN Super's Free VPN includes Austria server access, AES-256 encryption, and unlimited bandwidth with no credit card required.
FinanzOnline (finanzonline.bmf.gv.at) is Austria's tax portal. Like other government services on oesterreich.gv.at, it uses Handysignatur (mobile phone signature) or ID Austria for authentication. These services generally work from abroad, but some users report login issues or security flags when connecting from non-Austrian IPs. If you experience access problems from abroad, connect to VPN Super's Vienna server before logging in.
